Description

Many people live in bondage to feelings of rejection and don’t even realize it.  It causes us to believe lies about ourselves and project hurtful emotions on others. It also undermines our relationships with God.

In this message, Dr. Stanley describes the nature of rejection and shares a number of characteristics of a person who feels rejected. He or she:

- Has a critical spirit of self and others
- Has difficulty loving others
- Experiences feelings of inferiority
- Is overly attentive to clothing
- Is prone to perfectionism
- Is likely to procrastinate
- Dwells in anger and bitterness
- Expresses an attitude of superiority
- Is easily hurt
- Is suspicious of friendly overtures
- Lives in self isolation
- Feels depressed and angry
- Feels cheated out of life

These things cheat God and rob us of His best our lives. It might drive us to drink or use drugs, and it can even drive people to seek divorce or commit sexual immorality because of a desire to feel like somebody.

All of this is caused by having poor opinions of ourselves. Perhaps we have a physical defect, emotional hurts, or hurtful childhood experiences. But thankfully, as believers, God gives us a sense of belonging, worthiness, and competence. Learn to believe in the truth about God’s love and rest in the peace of His acceptance.

This sermon is part of the series Healing Damaged Emotions.
